Voices of JAFCO

Rachel and Sarah are two beautiful sisters who are lucky to be alive. They were born to the same Jewish birth mother who suffered from mental illness and a serious addiction to crack cocaine. Her addiction was so severe that she was on the streets using prostitution as a means to obtain drugs resulting in her diagnosis of HIV+. Thankfully, each time she learned she was pregnant she did go into a maternal addiction program where she received treatment for both her substance use and the HIV.
Both of the girls were born by C-Section since that significantly reduces the chances of HIV exposure. They also received preventative treatment the moment they took their first breath. The doctors did not know the effects that the drugs and HIV would have on their lives.
Several years later the girls are both healthy, very active and have been medically cleared 100% with no signs of HIV today, or ever.
